First-Episode Psychosis (FEP)

Empowering healthy futures

by helping individuals and families Navigate First-Episode Psychosis (FEP)

At HHI, we offer a holistic treatment program designed for young individuals facing early psychosis, which is a form of mental health difficulty marked by alterations in thinking, emotions, and sensory perceptions. Our aim is to support individuals in regaining their ability to function effectively in various aspects of life, including home, work, and social settings.

A first episode of psychosis is a frightening event, for the person experiencing the symptoms and for their loved ones around them. Navigate: First-Episode Psychosis is an evidence-based program that has proven results to reduce the negative impact of psychosis on social, intellectual and emotional functioning in adolescents and young adults. FEP is available to 16-29 year olds who experienced their first episode of psychosis within the last 2 years. This comprehensive care model addresses psychiatric, social, family, medical, educational and employment needs, specific to this age-group.

  • Persistent and unusual thoughts or beliefs

Exploring Our Program: Recognizing Common Symptoms, Needs, and Behavioral Challenges

Addressing Psychosis with Navigate,
Our Comprehensive Treatment Program

Research indicates that 3 in 100 people will experience psychosis in their lives (National Council For Behavioral Health, 2015). What's worse is that a 1/3 of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia will attempt suicide. Today, Hegira Health is proud to offer Navigate, a comprehensive treatment program for people who have had a first episode of psychosis. In this program, clients (and their families) receive help navigating the road to recovery and resilience from an episode of psychosis, including getting back to functioning well at home, at work and in the social world. Resilience Therapy

By enabling individuals to cultivate resilience when confronting psychosis, therapy can aid them in navigating the challenges more adeptly, potentially enhancing their overall well-being and quality of life.

Individual Resiliency Training (IRT)

Individual Resiliency Training (IRT) focuses on helping clients identify and utilize their personal strengths. We empower individuals to achieve their personal goals by educating them about their disorder and its treatment. Our program also provides a safe space for processing the experience of psychosis and aims to reduce self-stigmatizing beliefs. Through IRT, individuals can learn valuable social and resiliency skills to navigate life more effectively.

Peer and Family Support

Connecting clients with others who have undergone or are currently experiencing similar challenges. As well as providing families with essential information and skills to support their loved one's treatment and recovery.

Family Education Program

Our Family Education Program is designed to provide support and education to families about psychosis and its treatment. Through this program, we aim to reduce relapses by encouraging medication adherence and monitoring early warning signs of relapse.

Additionally, we support the client's work towards their personal recovery goals and aim to reduce family stress through improved communication and problem-solving skills.

Case Management

A comprehensive approach where case managers work closely with clients to understand their challenges, goals, and circumstances.

Education & Career Support

Helping clients develop education and employment goals, obtain jobs or enroll in educational programs, and/or offer support for all clients who are employed or in school to help them be successful.

Tailored Medication Treatment

Our tailored medication treatment focuses on reducing symptoms and preventing relapses, enabling individuals to achieve their desired goals. We work closely with each person to develop a personalized medication plan that addresses their unique needs and supports their journey to recovery.

First-Episode Psychosis

With early intervention and treatment, certain individuals may never experience another psychotic episode. However, for others, psychosis may manifest as a recurrent symptom of conditions like schizophrenia or other mental illnesses. Regardless, early treatment lays the foundation for recovery and leading a fulfilling life, ensuring opportunities for ongoing care and support.

Early identification and intervention for FEP are critical in improving long-term outcomes for individuals experiencing psychosis, as prompt treatment can help manage symptoms and prevent potential relapses.

Additional Symptoms of Psychosis

  • Incoherent speech

  • Impaired thinking

  • Neglecting self-care

  • Hallucinations

  • Delusions

  • Disorganized thinking

If you or someone you know is displaying these warning signs, it is crucial to reach out to a healthcare professional or seek assistance from a first-episode psychosis program, if available in your community. Taking early action is vital in ensuring the well-being and trajectory of young lives.
